Excellent Piece of the Mortal Kombat Series, 6 Apr 2010

A good installment in the famed Mortal Kombat series. Exciting, fun, and fills in holes after Deception and before Armageddon where ,"zombie lieu can" is explained as to how he came to be.

crappy, crappy game!, 6 Mar 2010

Graphics are choppy, especially in the konquest mode. Its like the programmers sent it out too quick. ps2 version is better. I get that its psp and the graphics aren't 100% on all games but i've played much better, much BIGGER games that didn't have the problems that this game had. Arcade mode is enjoyable, though the lack of specialty moves is disappointing.

My son LOVES it!, 31 Jan 2010

My son is a budding gamer & he really loves this game! I wasted a lot of $$ buying "age-appropriate" games that didn't hold his interest at all - bought this & Gods of War, 2 games he just keeps on playing on his PSP.

Best Portable Kombat, 15 Sep 2009

I don't expect another one better to be released in a long time, since this is authentically Midway's. When I ordered it, I had my doubts after seeing a string of previews on youtube; the graphics were questionable. Now that I've played an hour or so with various characters and a try arcade style with Kitana, I can say you can't really make a Mortal Kombat game better on the PSP than this. And what a surprise it would be to find one that is!

Unlike Deadly Alliance that I had for the original Xbox, you don't have to unlock characters. All of them are available, including Goro and several others. I've read that this is basically the game Deception made portable with some extras. I have only played this PSP version and the graphics are both as smooth and realistic as 3d gets for now.

The game starts with a significant video of a battle that starts the story's continuation from previous games. It's a video not to be missed, and I'd bet that you can only find the true quality in the game and not through online posted videos.

I'm willing to say that this version beats the PS2 and Xbox versions simply for being equal in graphic effects and being portable at the same time.

I found it difficult to open a profile in Deadly Alliance, but this newer version isn't difficult at all. It lets you select your own code, such as all the same button, so you don't have to memorize a unique scrambled one such as in DA.

For anyone who used to play MK games, then this will come as a nice addition, probably one that gets the most gameplay since we're old enough now to have become casual gamers. The original Xbox introduced a new playing field for gamers, and opened gaming to a broader audience. Fighting games were one genre taken to a new level at that time, along with the PS2 and Gamecube, and it shows here with this particular game as well. Forget the naysayers and get this before it's no longer in production, because it's sure to be a great game for much much longer than games of the previous decade or two (80s/90s). Here we go into a new one I guess!

Not the best fighter ever, but ..., 28 Sep 2008

I'm not a huge Mortal Kombat fan, mainly because of not a huge fan of fighting games. I do end up purchasing Mortal Kombat titles every once in a while, however, and I couldn't beat the price for this one on the PSP.

It has your standard fighting modes with a good amount of characters (old favorites, too). A chess mode, which I haven't even touched yet. An adventure mode (same deal -- haven't tried). It also has a puzzle mode which is a lot like Tetris ... but with bombs ... and traps. Now that is fun. I find myself wanting to play that constantly, and it to term it "addictive" doesn't do it justice. It is the saving grace for this game as far as I'm concerned.

One neat feature of the game is that it gives you koins that let you unearth graves containing all kinds of fun goodies. There are hundreds of graves to purchase, too, so you will be finding yourself spending a lot of time wandering the graveyard (which is kind of creepy).

Mortal Kombat fans are going to buy this regardless. Fighting fans may or may not love it. But casual fighting fans may find this more enjoyable than the standard, run-of-the-mill Mortal Kombat game.

    Portal Kombat !!!!, 26 Aug 2008

Ever since the first MK came out I have been a huge fan, and this game doesn't let you down. It has all the basics of an MK game, plus more. It comes with additional fun to play games, that are really focused on an handheld system.

If you have a PSP, I recommend this game. It will entertain you for a huge deal of hours.

    Hmmm, 18 Mar 2008

I see a lot of 5 stars here, but I was not impressed at all. I got this becuase I used to love the old mortal kombat, but a lot has changed. Im no video game expert, but the game play sucks, and all the extras suck. My choice was between this and the tekkan, and I would teckan over this game anny day.

Portable Mortal Kombat, 17 Feb 2008

I had been wanting a good fighting game for a while for the PsP and was glad that I picked up this title. A fan of Mortal Kombat since the beginning this title build on the rich Mortal Kombat history. The PsP handles the controls well and the mini games are a blast to play.

Worse than the PS2 version., 26 Dec 2007

This game is a crappy crossover to the psp. If you want this game, buy Deception on the ps2. Its graphics are not choppy, and the controls are responsive unlike the psp version.

Much more fun than your Ball 'n Chain!, 9 Oct 2007

Unchained is the PSP version of MK Deception. The single player modes variety of difficulty levels insures that you don't get unduly frustrated while the large character roster (including 6 more fighters than the Play Station 2 version) adds variety into the mix. Fighters have three fighting styles each, one of which is a weapon style (except for Blaze who has three unarmed styles) plus special moves.

Anyone who's played Mortal Kombat Deception before may only be slightly disappointed that the blood has been decreased a little in this version. The blood 'n guts are in there though and nothing's been censored (*cough* Nintendo *cough*), there's just a little less splatter left on the ground during the fight itself. That is however only in the general fighting! The stages death traps will still make mince meat (sometimes literally) of your opponents with all the splatter of their former glory. Speaking of blood, the fighters retain their two fatalities each. My only criticism of these is that one or two fatalities can become a little 'masked', covered over by the dark background. For example during Mileena's Sai fatality her opponent stumbles back while dying into the darkness, so you don't see all of the fatality. It doesn't totally spoil it but it is a bit of an oversight. The fatalities are all here except that Blaze who is one of the six new additions doesn't have any, not even a Hara Kiri which makes him feel like an incomplete fighter. Ah, and the Hara Kiri. Don't want your opponent to finish you off once you've lost? Then do it yourself! Yup your fighter can commit suicide. Obviously you still loose but it's the principle of all fighters who are off their tiny little rockers to not want their opponent to get the kill.

Konquest is where I am a bit disappointed. You are Shujinko the game's hero going through all the years of his life on a long quest to find the six Kamidogu (tools of the gods you see), while exploring and fighting your way through the realms. In this mode you can unlock secrets, gain Koins that you use in the Krypt (more on that in a mo) to unlock graves that contain bonus features (videos, pictures, character art etc), while uncovering the plot (you also gain these koins in the single player game). Only thing is it's actually a training mode disguised as an adventure. You see you meet plenty of characters whereby you have to train with them, even having to go through all the super basic moves you only press one button to activate, and this happens A LOT. My heart began to sink as I had to `train yet again'. This is what practice mode is for! Although it fits with the story of Shujinko needing to learn different fighting styles did I have to be forced into `press this button, then this one, then that, and that again' over and over again?? Yeah the exploration is decent enough and it's fun fighting and uncovering game items but you should have been given the option of just fighting these opponents AND the option of training to choose between. That way you would still fight when supposed to and not want to fall asleep. Practice mode does its job of training well and it's an option you can select any time you want.

As mentioned before the Krypt is where you unlock extra media etc. This is also where you collect the items you found in Konquest. In the console versions not all of the characters were selectable, as you had to open them up in the Krypt. In Unchained all those characters are selectable from the start. With that and the number of items in the Krypt in mind the developers still didn't decrease the Krypt's size, and thus you get a huge amount of boring graves with just Koins inside rather than extra items. You gain Koins to uncover Krypt items not to get more Koins for the sake of it surely? The Krypt really should have been smaller because there is little point in opening up graves if there's nothing really new inside (don't try this at home kids!).

Unchained is the best example of Mortal Kombat out of all its 3D versions. It could have done with a tweak here and there but the faults are only small and don't spoil the overall game play.

    Portable fun, 1 Sep 2007

I got this game in a sale, and was pleasantly suprised. When you buy a fighting game, you know generally what to expect: Arcade/story battles and then maybe a couple of mini games. But Mortal Kombat has more to offer. You have your arcade battle as always and the usual survival mode too. But you also have chess kombat, puzzle kombat and, to my suprise, konquest mode. You even have the graveyard krypt, that some players might have seen from Deadly Alliance. Here you unlock alternate costumes and concept art, and a few other little bits and bobs. All your favourite characters return on the handheld. Including Scorpion, Sub-zero, Raiden and Frost. Another thing that I was nicely suprised by was the interactive fighting areas. There is one where you can knock your opponent of the egde of the arena and they will fall and get impaled on a giant spike. With standard MK gore. You can even use each characters fatalities which is nice.

For those who might be considering Mortal Kombat or Tekken on the PSP, I would say Mortal Kombat. Although both games are good. I feel that MK has more to offer than Tekken. Gore, more mini games, a story in Konquest mode, 3 fighting styles, including a weapon for every character and interactive, multi-levelled arenas.

A must have for fans of Mortal Kombat.

    Incredible, 26 Jun 2007

This game gave me everything I wanted to have. Almost a direct port from the playstation II game Mortal Kombat deception, I was able to revel in the brutal Fatalaties and entertaining storylines. Once again I am glad that I purchased the PSP system. It has been A lifesaver on a long Deployment.

Good game. I was kind of skeptical of mortal kombat taking the game into the PSP, but it looks good on the psp. Graphics are good, but the loading is worse than the PS2 version. Overall, it is good and the developers should consider making another one on the PSP. Original.

Mortal Kombat Unchained......., 5 Mar 2007

First, Dragonball Z Shin Budokai. Then, Tekken: Dark Resurrection. Now, Mortal Kombat:Unchained. With each new fighter released, I'm more and more convinced that the Playstation Portable can give a deep console presentation but on a portable and mobile device. Take Mortal Kombat: Unchained, for instance, -basically a port of Mortal Kombat Deception for the PSP that includes every last thing in the console game. Two fatalities per character with new death traps, stage fatalities-Completely redesigned single player Konquest mode-Features multi-tiered interactive backgrounds-With a mix of your favorite fighters as well as many new ones. It's the definitive portable Mortal Kombat experience every fan has waited for. I must say, I'm impressed. The loading times for the game are a smidgen long but doesn't mar things overall. Other than that, Mortal Kombat: Unchained is 'off the chain'. Seriously, you'll love it.

    What a game!, 15 Dec 2006

This game is for the MK fans everywhere. I am gald that they pushed this game back from the orginal release date. There are no flaws in this game so far, it is just like playing it on the PS2 system. The game play and the graphics are superb, they really did the game justice. Not like Midnight club. This game is a must have for all MK/PSP gamers.

Amazing Game , Options and Graphics !, 14 Dec 2006

If you are a fan of the fighting game genre, Then this game is for you. The game is tons of fun and the graphics are amazing especially for a handheld. I am a fan of most of the Mortal Kombat games but they seemed to go downhill as the series aged. This one by far makes up for it! Who would of thought that a handheld would present a game with this type of stature. The graphics are eye catching and clear. The game is fun and the many modes of play make the money worth it alone. This game makes me proud to say I own a PSP. well there is not much left to say other than "Begin fight" !
